Hookup Culture and Sexual Assault

An important key to the prevention of sexual assault is understanding the underlying forces at play. One aspect that is often over looked and underestimated is Hookup Culture. We cannot ignore the power and danger of this phenomenon because it facilitates and promotes sexual violence and exploitation and is an influential factor in the lives of young adults.

Hookup culture is  dangerous because it's the ideal environment for the serial rapist. But it is dangerous, too, because it seduces too many students into thinking that in certain situations sexual aggression is allowed... it puts students at risk of being victimized, but also it puts them at risk of committing a crime, even if just once, because hookup culture says that they can and they should

-Lisa Wade, American Hookup, the New Culture of Sex on Campus

The Film

Liberated: The New Sexual Revolution is a documentary about coming of age in today's young adult hookup culture. Following the journey of college students on Spring Break, the film provides ground breaking insight into attitudes and behaviors regarding sex, the normalization of sexual violation, and the struggle against conceptions of gender and sexuality shaped by the media.

Hugely impactful, goosebump-inducing... I've never felt something so much
